Jambus in the race again!

The same Jambus I was talking about months back is in the race again; this time it’s not about volleyball, but it’s all about soccer, chess and carom. We are getting prepared for yet another innings in our office Recreation Committee tournaments. I have made minor changes to the team to comply with the rules. There’s going to be only 6 players in soccer team instead of the normal 11, chess and carom remain the same. First round match for all games are on the way and we are already thru to the next round of soccer and carom. Though our first round soccer match was against a week opposition, we took it seriously and done it in a nice fashion with a score of 8-0. Most of the players got to score at least one goal each with Iron Man Nags scoring the highest number of goals 3 and Goti and myself ended up with 2 each, this victory means 10 points to the team. The former carom champion Lu is also in our team that he won the first round in style with a score of 25-0, this means our points table read 20 out of 20 by now. First round of chess is yet to go.
Team: Nags, Tamali, Guru, Jagadeesh, Lu, Goti, Inderdeep and Me.

More to go in the coming days!

The rain factor!

Last night I returned late from office and found that the front side of my house fully covered with muddy water that I could not take my bike inside. It’s not just the water that prevented me from entering the house; it’s the muddy soil over which water stays for around one foot did not allow me or anyone else to drive through that water. Just within days the local municipality started laying underground water pipes in that area, rain started and it never stopped then on which created lots of trouble to those who live nearby, I am also one of the victims.

At last I took a deep breath and entered the house; there was another surprise waiting for me that night, my bedroom was fully wet due to water leakage through an electrical hole in the sidewall, which covered almost one half of the floor. All I could is call the landlord and show him there is some flaw with the construction so that it could be rectified later. It's already 12 in the night, I am lazy enough to wipe the floor and slept at another corner of the room pulling the bed ahead of the wet surface. At least I was happy for the air-conditioned effect due to the water inside the house.

Of hilltops, lakes and observatory!

Alangayam, the place where my elder brother live with his family is surrounded by hills and greeneries. We a group of seven including two of my brothers and few others have decided to explore the places around. We kicked off the journey around 10 Am in three two-wheelers and reached the main spot called Beema falls in the Javadu hills of Vellore district in Northeastern part Tamil Nadu around 11 Am. Though it's hardly 25 Km from here (Alangayam-Vellore), it took us more than one hour because of the deadly curves and the rocky roads all over the way from Alangayam to Beema falls in Jamunamarathur which is the main village in the Javadu hills famous for it's sandalwood and fruit bearing trees.

From there we moved on to the lake view nearby. The brownish lake water, greeneries and the light drizzle welcomed us and we all were surprised that such a small village has a beautiful lake well maintained and cultured. After spending couple of hours on boat riding and having taken enough photos, we moved on to a place called Kavalur which house an observatory in the midst of a greenish village.

"Kavalur observatory is located in Kavalur in the Javadu Hills of Vellore District. It's located in a 100 acre forest land in Tamil Nadu which is strewn with a variety of greenery of tropical region besides a number of medicinal plants with an occasional appearance of some wild life like deer, snakes and scorpions. Several varieties of birds have also been spotted in the campus. The observatory is at an altitude of 725m above mean sea level (longitude 78° 49.6' E ; latitude 12° 34.6' N). Apart from being reasonably away from city lights and industrial areas, the location has been chosen in order to be closer to the earth's equator for covering both northern and southern hemispheres with equal ease. In addition, its longitudinal position is such that it is the only major astronomical facility between Australia and South Africa for observing the southern objects."
One of the scientists over there demonstrated us the working principle of the 93 inch Vainu Bappu telescope while my elder brother and his colleague enjoyed every bit of it as they are also physics scholars. It's a treat to eyes watching the movement of the doom shaped ceiling moving in line with the celestial objects.

No wonder "Science and Technology" is way ahead than our software! Read More...

We also visited few mango farms and fish farms on the way back home.

My Travelogue

It was Friday night, 25th June ’04, Recreation Committee has organized a get-together at a nearby hotel. I reached the venue around 10 in the night though the party has started around 8 p.m. After having tasted the variety of food from across the country; myself, Nags and Lu headed to Shalimar Township around 11.30p.m to get ready for the early morning trip to Bhopal where we are supposed to board the Karnataka express to Banglore.

Though it was hectic journey from Bhopal to Banglore for more than 30 hours, Lu and myself managed to enjoy every bit of it by playing rummy and cracking those good old jokes; Even Nag’s Sherlock Holmes novel could not stop us from playing and chattering. Unlike other trains, the quality of food served was also good that Lu found himself enjoying the Masala Dosa, Samabar and the masala teas. It was Nag’s idea to go for ice cream after every meal that collapsed my throat for at least the next one week.

We hardly found time to sleep or roam around the city as we reached Banglore around 3 pm and had to attend Suman’s Marriage function the same evening itself. Overall the journey to Banglore was good, and this doesn’t even complete one way of the entire journey as each one of us had to travel at least another 5 to 15 hours to reach their hometown after attending Suman’s marriage the other day.
